The interpretation of dreams

Published 2023-08-16

What happens when we dream?

When we dream we are totally free, there are no brakes, limiting beliefs, emotional anchors ... There is neither good nor evil. Our unconscious defense mechanisms do not act when we dream, so through dreams we can receive very important messages for our inner growth.

Making a record of our dreams will help us to know ourselves better, to be more aware of our mood, as well as to find its symbolic meaning, thus receiving the messages that our mind sends us.

This work can help you understand yourself better by capturing aspects of your mental life that you hadn't paid attention to or that had been distorted or denied.

"Until you make conscious what you carry in your unconscious, the latter will direct your life and you will call it destiny."

CARL GUSTAV JUNG

How to learn to interpret dreams?****

We must begin by making a record of dreams, since in the minutes following waking up we quickly forget what we have dreamed. In order to make a correct registration, the following aspects must be taken into account:

  • Write down the date and title of the dream first so you can identify it in the future.
  • Detect what basic emotion we feel in the dream.
  • Elements that are curious to us, beyond elements that we have lived the day before.
  • Describe the scenario.
  • Describe the characters. It is important to pay attention to whether the dream is in the first person and we are the protagonists or other people represent it.
  • Look at the conversations, the type of dialogues that appear.
  • Relate the dream, what things happen and in what sequence.

When we have recorded these aspects of the dream we can begin to look for their messages and meanings. In order to do this, it is necessary to learn to search for and interpret symbols.

How to interpret the meanings of dreams?****

There is no dictionary of symbols where an object represents an idea in a generalized way, but several aspects must be considered when relating objects or situations with their symbolic representation. For example, "water" symbolizes, as a general rule, emotions, but it is not the same to dream of a flooded field while we feel a pleasant emotion, which can mean abundance, than to dream of a tsunami accompanied by the feeling of fear and danger, which, therefore, can symbolize that our emotions are overflowing and damaging the places where they pass.

It is important to keep in mind that dream messages have to do with desires and fears, and this can be a good start to start interpreting them. Through the questions: What did you want to achieve in the dream? Or what scared me?

Here are some of the important elements of dreams and their general meaning as a guide:

  • HOUSE: inner self, you can see your self-image through observing what the house is like.
  • STREET: course of your life.
  • OFFICE: represents your profession.
  • LIGHT: knowledge, clarity of thought.
  • DARKNESS: ignorance, mystery.
  • WATER: represents your emotions.
  • FLING: freedom.
  • TRAVEL: need to break the monotony.
  • DEATH: change to a more spiritual stage.
  • DRIVING OR PILOTING: independence and autonomy.
  • WEDDING: desire for separation.
  • SEX: integration of aspects of oneself.
  • SNAKE: betrayal.
  • TSUNAMI: loss of emotional control.
  • APOCALYPSE OR END OF THE WORLD: end of a stage of your life.
  • FALL: fear of losing the respect of others.
  • GETTING LOST: not finding your way in life.
  • BEING NAKED: fear of not living up to an event.
  • PERSECUTION: wanting to follow the path but being afraid to leave something behind.
  • BEING ATTACKED: stressful situation.

There are many more elements in dreams, as you get used to interpreting them you will learn about your own symbols and you will be able to know the fears and desires that influence your life.

It is a progressive work, at first it will be difficult for you to remember your dreams and it will be difficult, but as you do the exercise you will discover great messages.
